The Tait Factory in Limerick is the site where Confederate uniforms were produced during the American Civil War. The site has now been designated for the building of a wide range of modern dwellings, and we are keen that the heritage of the site remains to the fore, with its history fully incorporated into any development. With that in mind we would encourage you to sign the online petition set up by the excellent Irish Historical Textile blog which you can do by clicking the link here. The Irish Historical Textile site also has information on how to contact Limerick City Council and the plans for the development which you can read here. The Tait site is a key part of the proposed Irish American Civil War Trail which this site was designed to promote, so we hope that it will be substantively preserved for future generations and its potential as a tourist site fully realised.
